Pine bark, the natural pine bark that comes from the bark of the trunk of conifers, is widely used in gardening. Both in the garden and in our pots, amateur and professional gardeners alike can use pine bark in different ways.

Ideal for uses:

• The pine bark can be used to decorate flower beds and walkways in your garden. We can also place it around individual trees and plants to highlight them, adding an extra natural tone to the garden design. But also in the pots and planters on our balcony, adding pine bark around plants can give a beautiful aesthetic effect.
• Pine bark is used for the treatment of unwanted grasses, as a natural herbicide. In particular, the addition of pine bark on top of the soil reduces the germination of weed seeds and not many weeds grow. Also, ground cover with pine bark also helps to reduce surface water evaporation. However, for universal weed control, many gardeners use geotextile on top of the soil and then add pine bark on top.
• Pine bark is used as a substrate to transplant orchids, especially indoor orchids. After all, in its natural habitat, in the tropics, orchids grow on the trunks of trees. We therefore obtain pine bark of small 2-3 cm diameter for orchids from specialised nurseries and garden centres.
